2017 Texas Longhorns Australia Get Together an outstanding success

Texas Longhorns Australia’s 2017 National Show and National Sale are over for another year and both were considered to be the best ever.

The show saw a great roll up of longhorns enter the 7 classes with the Grand Champion Female being awarded to “Kooroora Elsa” a 20 months old heifer owned and exhibited by Rodney & Adelaide Cooper from Kooroora Longhorns. Grand Champion Bull of the Show went to 14 month old “Speargrass Star Witness” owned by Nicole & Keith Burns from Speargrass Longhorns.

Best Presented animal went to YC Venus exhibited by the Newbury family from Yarrow Creek Texas Longhorns and the Herdsmanship Award went to Adelaide Cooper from Kooroora Longhorns.

Gunnedah Local Patrick Rankmore did a fantastic job as the Judge for the 2017 Show.

Saturday night saw the AGM and Dinner being enjoyed by well over 50 members and visitors. Rodney Cooper was elected the new President for 2017/2018 and past President John Bastardi and Geoff Dawson (Two of the originators of Texas Longhorns Australia) were awarded Life Membership.

Sunday saw 30 quality longhorns go under the hammer when Sam Plevey from Purtle Plevey Agencies commenced the auction at 10.30 am. The highest priced animal was Speargrass Star Witness, a striking 14 months old bull, who was purchased by Paul & Marie Klante form Girilambone. They also purchased the highest priced female on the day YC Impressive Springs 814 a very fancy rising 3 year old heifer, who was in calf to Southern Cross Ironbark the longest horned bull in Australia.

All members and visitors had a fun filled weekend. Members have all headed home to work out what animals they will bring to the 2018 National Show. The countdown has begun already.
